About me
🌲 Serena Chin is a passionate environmentalist and biodiversity enthusiast. For her leadership in the planting of the first Miyawaki Forest in Western Canada, she was named a 2023 Top 25 Under 25 Environmentalist by Starfish Canada and a 2024 International Eco-Hero Award Finalist by Action for Nature.
She previously:
🏔️ Collected 50+ signatures for a Just Transition petition that was tabled by MP Wilson Miao in the House of Commons
🏔️ Led a campaign to reduce GHG usage by lowering her school’s temperature by 1-2 degrees every Friday
🏔️ Encouraged students to bring their own reusable utensils to reduce single-use plastic waste
⭐️ She continues to be a Metro Vancouver Youth and Education Advisory Panel (YEAP) member, engaging in conversations about waste management, climate education, and sustainability. Additionally, as a Richmond Green Ambassador Team Lead, she educates the public at special events about waste diversion. Lastly, she has joined the Take a Stand: Youth for Conservation team as a Youth Education coordinator and is a part of a graduate-level study at SFU regarding nature connectivity.
⭐️ Serena is currently a Presidential Scholar at the University of British Columbia in the Science One program. She is a proud member of the WasteNauts Sustainable Engineering Design Team and UBC Student Energy.
